The Chiba University Graduate School of Nursing was established in 1979 as a master's course in nursing based on the education and research of the Faculty of Nursing.

In 1993, the Graduate School of Nursing Doctoral Course was established.

The doctoral program of the Graduate School of Nursing aims to train Nurse Scientists who can develop methods of nursing support through learning and researching basic theories and their applications that give a scientific basis to the nursing practice.

In 2021, the Graduate School of Nursing reformed a Nursing Major in order to activate mutual exchanges between faculty members, students, and graduate students, and to enhance education and research. The master's course has been reorganized into the Nursing Course and the Nursing Practice Course.
The Nursing Course aims to foster educators and researchers, with a view to linking it with the doctoral course. The Nursing Practice Course in the Master's Course consists of the Nursing Management Program (nursing administrator training), the Advanced Practical Nursing Program (education of certified nurse specialists), and the Specific Nursing Program (linked to Nurses Pertaining to Specified Medical Acts training).
