Science is the quest for truth of Nature. It is essential for human survival. The Graduate School of Science implements scientific research of natural phenomena, based on field observations, laboratory works, and theoretical considerations. All of these skills are essential to a good scientist. Chiba University is an ideal place to study natural sciences because of the well-established educational programs, the pioneering research facilities and internationally-acclaimed researchers. The Graduate School of Science at Chiba University has the main campus in the town center of Chiba City. The city is conveniently located on the border between Tokyo Metropolis and the rural Boso Peninsula. Tokyo is one of the largest business, culture and entertainment capitals on the globe, and Tokyo’s city center is less than one hour away by train from Chiba City. The Boso Peninsula is a beautiful farming area with rolling hills and green forested mountains, and is fringed with cozy beaches, spectacular sea cliffs, and fisher’s villages. It is a warm place throughout the year, and has many popular sites for sightseeing, hiking, scuba diving and other outdoor sports. The Graduate School of Science provides a wide range of postgraduate programs for both pure and applied sciences. The faculty consists of five departments: Mathematics and Informatics, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, and Earth Sciences. It accepts 210 freshmen in the undergraduate, 117 in the master’s, and 25 in the doctoral programs every year. The staff members are sincere and passionate professionals, and have been constantly trained to provide better education for students -this is our sprit of Kaizen -a Japanese word for “continual self-improvement for the better.”
